Sea Wall | Burning Coal Theatre at the Murphey School | Stage | Indy Week
This is a past event.
When: June 11-28 2015

For newbies out on the ocean, depth perception is usually a mixed blessing. For some reason, most don't want to know that the Atlantic, on average, is more than two miles deep. Alex is like that: a novice diver, exploring a wreck off the Southern coast of France with his wife and father-in-law, when he encounters the sea wall—the point in the ocean where the continental shelf suddenly falls away. What lies beyond is, literally, the abyss. "Even bright as it is above us, and it is a bright day," Alex recalls, "the darkness of the fall ... is as terrifying as anything I've ever seen." As you may have guessed, something else is about to drop away beneath Alex's feet in this drama by Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time). The notable Elizabeth London returns to direct the opener of Burning Coal's month-long festival of one-person shows. Joey Heyworth stars. 7:30 p.m. June 1113; 2 p.m. June 14, 21 and 28, $10, 224 Polk St., Raleigh, 919-834-4001, —Byron Woods
