Scott Hampton

When: Sat., Feb. 12, 1-3 p.m. 2011

This year, Chapel Hill resident and High Point native Scott Hampton celebrates 30 years of being published with a new two-issue series from Dark Horse Comics starring the cult horror hero Hellboy. Hampton's eerie painted work has been featured in collaborations with creators ranging from Greg Rucka (Whiteout) to Mike Carey (The Unwritten), and ranges from such superhero characters as Batman to his own horror stories to an adaptation of The Book of Genesis. Particularly recommended is the retrospective volume Spookhouse from IDW, which includes the excellent novella The Upturned Stone, a Stand By Me-esque tale of young boys who have one last Halloween with a very eerie pumpkin. The signing runs 1–3 p.m. —Zack Smith
