Saxapahaw Oktoberfest: Katharine Whalen, Curtis Eller's American Circus, Gasoline Stove

When: Sun., Oct. 12, 4 p.m. 2014
Price: free
This celebration of fall’s arrival features three locals who share idiosyncratic and endearing definitions of folk. Headliner Katharine Whalen got her start with the Squirrel Nut Zippers; she now makes albums that blend her distinct voice with pieces of country, pop and rock. Curtis Eller gets a little more rambunctious with freewheeling tunes that allude to the B-52s, Southern Culture on the Skids and early jazz. Gasoline Stove speeds down more standard country roads out of Pittsboro. The event is free, but toss a few bucks to these bands anyway. —Allison Hussey
