Raleigh
Ron White

Memorial Auditorium—They call him Tater Salad. If you've ever seen any of the Blue Collar guys performing on Comedy Central, you've probably seen Ron White cracking wise with a cigar in one fist and a glass of Scotch in the other. White is now touring for his latest album, Behavioral Problems, rolling into Raleigh after three shows in Baton Rouge. Expect to hear him ruminate on the usual subjects, namely, public drunkenness, the tire guy at Sears and the simple fact that you can't fix stupid. He's right—you can't. For more information, visit www.progressenergycenter.com. —Sarah Ewald

Durham
Louis Ledford

Broad Street Cafe—Louis Ledford is a Dylanesque folk troubadour from New Orleans. His homespun tales are written from the eyes of the down and out, then lifted by fingerpicked guitar, banjo plucks, harmonica wheeze and pipes considerably more dulcet than Dylan's. Ledford plays Broad Street at 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday nights: The first night, he's followed by Durham's Soulless Dogs on a free bill, while the second night is a benefit for ovarian cancer awareness that finds him paired with the duo of Kenny Roby and ex-Two Dollar Pistol Scott McCall. Sunday night's show will cost you $30. —Spencer Griffith

Chapel Hill
Black Skies, The Curtains of Night, Make

Local 506—Chapel Hill doom trio Black Skies recently parted ways with drummer Cameron Weeks (see www.indyweekblogs.com/scan for that story), so the headliners' set might suffer tonight. Frontman Kevin Clark assures that the band will deliver something with its original skinsman, Tom White, though. No matter; even with a hobbled headliner, this slow metal troika piles on the awesome with the crusty, monolithic avalanche that is The Curtains of Night and promising newcomers Make. Descended from Scott Endres' *SONS, Make and its shabbily recorded demos offer dark, fluid doom that twists like Portland lords YOB and stomps like Sleep. $6 for all the heaviness your weekend can handle? Sounds like a mean deal. The first chord drops at 10 p.m. Check www.local506.com. —Bryan Reed
