Sam Robinson & the Groove Elaters, Garland Mason Band

When: Sat., June 11, 10 p.m. 2011
Price: $8

With a fistful of fiery riffs and a new backing band called the Groove Elaters, young Winston-Salem guitarist and vocalist Sam Robinson plies his fretwork among the crowded field of jammers reared on bluesy Southern rock. He also nods toward funk and jazz. That's hardly a shock when you consider that Robinson plays semi-regularly alongside Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge and Derek Trucks Band keyboardist/flautist Kofi Burbridge. Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle will even man the kit tonight. While he can't match their status, Robinson is a solid regional talent whose stock is beginning to rise above the pack.
