My family has been vacationing in the Emerald Isle-Atlantic Beach for 15 years and have seen the swimming area degrade dramatically because of the sand replenishment. It causes a big dropoff as one gets into the water with crushed shells adding to the bad experience. Ten feet out and you are in 4 foot water with waves breaking. A sand bar is created out about 75 feet if you can get there. Between the shore and the bar is a bad place for potential rip tides. This is a tragedy. I do not intend to visit this area in the future. You can have your houses but you will need a pool. Take a visit to SC beaches to see the differences
