Sacrificial Poets Poetry Slam

When: Sat., Feb. 23, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $5-10

In 2011, the Sacrificial Poets won an Indy Arts Award for their "ability to create a space for transformation." The youth performance poetry organization, the first of its kind in North Carolina, uses spoken and written word as a form of social activism. They're kind of a big deal: Team members have placed in national and international poetry slams, and they've used their poems to lobby for collective bargaining, affordable housing and gender equality. Audio diaries of their spoken word journeys abroad have even aired on NPR. This slam will feature some of the Triangle's best young poets doing their thing, telling powerful stories about their lives and the kind of world they want to live in one day. —Emma Miller
