Re: “Remembering director Sydney Pollack, and his visit to Durham

"He was the picture of a man comfortable in his own skin and celebrity." I never met Pollack, but I thought the same thing when watching him in interviews. He clearly knew who he was as a person and as a filmmaker. Dave Kehr said on his site that Pollack "was one of those rare filmmakers who seemed genuinely interested in work other than his own." He always came across as a humble, unpretentious craftsman, which I greatly admired. Thanks for writing this remembrance.
