SUNDAY, MAY 15

RUBBISH 2 RUNWAY III TRASHION SHOW

While you might look around at all the construction sites in the Triangle and just see trash, the designers of Rubbish 2 Runway see raw material for haute couture. In the third outing of FRANK Gallery's semi-annual "trashion show," dozens of high school and college students construct garments, fashionable or fantastical, from recycled materials. Prior years have produced styles made of packing peanuts, bike tires, road maps, and playing cards. It's a Scrap Exchange-y, creative reuse kind of thing, and it moves to a funnily glitzy setting this year. On Sunday, models strut the raiment of refuse down the runway at Mercedes Benz of Durham, to be judged on innovation, use of materials, "wearability," and creativity. You can also see the clothes on display at FRANK through June 5, with a reception at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 13. —Brian Howe
