Price: $15-$25

MURPHEY SCHOOL AUDITORIUM—Burning Coal Theatre is a classy operation, so why the hell is it staging a theatrical version of a melodramatic Baz Luhrmann movie? (We're joking. Don't bite your thumb at us, sir.) Shakespeare's timeless tragicomic tale of two star-cross'd lovers who speak in blank verse being driven apart by their vengeful families—we've all been there—comes to Burning Coal courtesy of director Emily Ranii, who played Juliet for the company when she was 14. Alex Morgan plays Romeo, while the impeccably christened Emily Rose White (but we're sure she'd smell as sweet by any other name) is Juliet. The production runs concurrently with Burning Coal's "Playing Shakespeare Class" (Jan. 28March 18, $155), where teacher Jason Tyne-Zimmerman will gird your fatal loins to audition for the next production. 7:30 p.m. Thurs.–Sun.; 2 p.m. Sun., $5–$25, 224 Polk St., Raleigh, 919-834-4001, —Brian Howe
