Mr. Woods asks a fair question about "Balzac...", and deserves a fair response. As I was developing the script, I choose very early on to indeed have the fantastical elements/characters operate on a level deliberately invisible to the "real people" of this world. The intent was to illustrate the presence of the imagination in shaping and directing the lives of these people -- and ourselves -- and how that presence is most often ignored and unacknowledged. Whether this was or was not a valid approach is, obviously, a matter of opinion, but I clarify simply to point out that it was intentional rather than accidental. It is a point that I will give serious thought to in any future opportunity to bring "Balzac..." back to life, and I appreciate the observation.
