Rita Coolidge

When: Tue., Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. and Wed., Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $20-25

Like Bonnie Bramlett before her and Sheryl Crow after, Rita Coolidge got her start as a backing singer, with her early days spent as an ensemble cast member behind Delaney and the aforementioned Bonnie, plus with Leon Russell and Joe Cocker. Her "Superstar" on Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen launched the multifaceted solo career that she'll celebrate in an acoustic setting for this show. Expect arrangements of her two biggest hits, the Jackie Wilson classic "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher" and "We're All Alone." Maybe we'll even hear "Delta Lady," the song Russell wrote about her. —Rick Cornell
