RighteousGIRLS is flutist Gina Izzo and pianist Erika Dohi. The duo is breaking out with the release of their debut album, gathering blue, a collection of experimental, modern and sometimes improvised duets from composers including Vijay Iyer, Pascal Le Boeuf and Andy Akiho. Dohi’s prepared piano and Izzo’s percussive flute playing thrill aurally and visually. Textures change rapidly, and Dohi uses elbows, forearms and more to strike the keys. This experimental music is a perfect gateway for newcomers exposing their ears to exciting new sounds. —Justin Weber
