Rider on the Rain

When: Wed., May 8, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

Not to be confused with the Doors' "Riders on the Storm," though IMDB claims Jim Morrison was so taken by this 1970 French thriller that he was inspired to write their classic number. Purple Noon director René Clément helms this tale of a young woman who kills her rapist—only to be dogged by Charles Bronson as an Army officer tracking said rapist down. A deadly cat-and-mouse game ensues that contains one of Bronson's most celebrated performances. (He unsuccessfully attempted to have the film remade in America in the 1980s, reprising his earlier role.) Rider on the Rain was rarely seen but was highly acclaimed by those who did (quite possibly including Morrison). See it for yourself along with some classic trailers at this Cinema Overdrive screening. —Zack Smith
