Vin Diesel returns to the screen as his favorite character, in the latest space-actioner to hit theaters this year. The third chapter in a franchise Diesel has willed into continuing, the actor takes the action back to basics by stranding his heroic serial killer on a deserted planet. Before the film turns into a carbon-copy of Pitch Black, there are some interesting concepts explored here, as the fearless Riddick is always on the edge of death when dealing with nature. Unfortunately that only amounts to one-third of the running time, with the rest of the movie filled with generic bounty hunter characters, sub-Beastmaster special effects, and gross-out scenes that look like deleted scenes from Faces of Death. Here's hoping that we have witnessed the final piece in this particular cinematic puzzle.
