Re: “Souvenirs of torture in Vietnam

Dear Perry,

Sean was my best friend in Palm Beach when we were young teens. The behavior and dress you describe was, well... Sean. As for his lack of understanding as to the correct behavior of a war correspondent- understand that Sean adored his Father (as you should know having been his roommate), and sought only to be a carbon copy of Errol Flynn, and his going to Nam only traced his Dad's steps in the Spanish Civil War. Errol Flynn could do no wrong in Sean's eyes.

When he was reported missing, his Mother fell into a very deep depression, and never climbed out of it to her dying day. I confess that I too have had a tough time of it to this day, as we discussed his future before he left for France, and I suggest I suffer from survior's guilt.

Thanks for the kind words about Sean- I still miss him.
