I am a Realtor and love working with first-time buyers. Many of them work downtown and would love to live there also. The typical scenario for a hard working, young professional after a few property tours of what they can afford is that they have to either keep renting or move further out. Most often, they choose to keep renting because they don't want the additional hassle and cost of getting back to the burbs after socializing downtown after work.
