Rhin, Peddlecrusher, The Hag

When: Mon., Oct. 12, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
The West Virginia power trio RHIN pushes the sound of sludge metal—that is, big, blown-out bass and guitar with drums that constantly sound like they’re going to give to the hits they’re forced to endure—through math rock structures. The music is viscous but certainly still fluid, as RHIN moves behind the din it creates as though trying to outrace it. Think Eyehategod in pursuit of The Jesus Lizard or of a few Touch & Go nerds deciding to start a doom band and tiring of it almost instantly. This is good, grouchy stuff, a fit for metal and non-metal kingdoms alike. —Grayson Haver Currin
