Reza Aslan

When: Mon., Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m. 2014
Who can reduce Fox News anchors and religious pundits to tears? Reza Aslan can. The Iranian-American author and frequent cable news guest irks the right with books such as No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam—a liberal interpretation of the religion's history—and, more recently, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, a historical life of Jesus to give our own Bart Ehrman a run for his money. Aslan reminds readers that Jesus disdained the wealthy and was not a white person, which you know conservatives just love, examining his historical and sociological context and the zealotry that sometimes overshadows his teachings. The crowd at Quail Ridge might need to be frisked for stones in their pockets. A certain fellow once said that you shouldn't cast one unless you're without sin. He had some good ideas. —Zack Smith
