Retro Kids Beat Battle

When: Thu., Sept. 3, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $10
The stakes are high for local beatmakers now that they can point out a peer’s name—the Apex-based producer Dorian Norman, aka D.R.U.G.S.—in the production credits for Dr. Dre’s recent Compton. It proves that a big-time placement like the one Norman scored on Dre’s “Darkside/Gone” track is possible with the right amount of hustle and talent. D.R.U.G.S. has won plenty of these local beat battles by long shots. Now it’s your turn. —Eric Tullis
