Re: “In Durham Public Schools, budget cuts chip away at the classroom

Yes, there are some mediocre teachers out there, but, the truth is, there are so many teachers in this situation that love what they do and spend countless hours bettering themselves to have the door shut in their faces. Additionally, the teachers who were cut at my school were, for the most part, those who were ineffective, so I need to tell you that most principals are putting those types of teachers on the "list."

Samiha, I appreciate your article; however, I would like the media to investigate the money that is being wasted somewhere. I agree with much of what Mike has to say, but I happen to think there is a scandal behind all of this poor funding. Somewhere in my spirit I hear the words "kick-backs, fund mis-appropriation and down-right embezzlement! I would like for someone to find out where our tax-payer revenue is going...where is the lottery money?...where is all of this money going for a teired-water restriction that the county no longer needs?

Sure, raise taxes, but I promise you, if we don't do something about the pork in this county, we will NEVER have quality anything.

Just a final note about teachers: Just so that all of you realize...they still don't get paid enough and they are asked to do more than the 37.5 hours they are contracted to work...they still make just enough money for every welfare organization to say "You make too much" and, in Durham county, the supplement for teachers is disbursed and taxed like a bonus! nIt is figured into teacher salaries, but, in the end, only the higher-paid teachers benefit from the allocation of those monies...just something to think about...

Take care///
