Reese McHenry

When: Fri., May 24, 8:30 p.m. 2013

Reese McHenry has been through hell during the last few years, but it looks like things are finally leveling out for the Durham guitarist, songwriter and vocal powerhouse. In mid-April, her hard-hitting garage-blues band Dirty Little Heaters played its first show since 2009—the year she was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a heart disorder. While The Heaters' welcome reunion wasn't McHenry's first show back onstage, it was an essential milestone in her slow return to something like the life she had before. One thing McHenry has learned is how essential it is to pace herself; as such, this set is a gentle, dinnertime affair—just McHenry, her acoustic guitar and her tunes, with a cover or two perhaps thrown in. —Corbie Hill
