Red Collar, American Aquarium, Pullman Strike

When: Sat., May 28, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $8-10

The past year has been an obstacle course for Red Collar. With new families, career opportunities and injuries making touring more difficult, nobody would have panned Red Collar for calling it a day. They'd have gone out on a high note, too, having just released the excellent debut LP, Pilgrim. But it wouldn't have suited Red Collar. After all, their songs—a compelling post-punk approach to heartland bar-rock—are all about beating odds. So here they are, on the brink of completing a second album and headlining a hometown stage with alt-country heirs apparent American Aquarium and the Pullman Strike, Charlotte's answer to Uncle Tupelo. —Bryan Reed
