It's time for NC to be truly pro-active and progressive on this issue. Our Ag agencies have the opportunity to facilitate the ability of consumers to obtain a healthful, clean product from a local producer they know. Conversely, they can continue to be entrenched in the old bureacratic dogma, fighting tooth and nail to prevent folks from making a dietary choice that 60 years ago was considered a personal, private right of anyone who owned a cow or other dairy animal. I question the state's right to make illegal the group purchase of any animal. If it is illegal to own a dairy animal and benefit from that ownership, then why is it not also illegal to own shares in a show dog, race horse, stud bull, and benefit from the ownership of it? Technically, we could milk any co-owned animal capable of producing milk, share the milk among the owners, and not be in violation of state law unless it's a commonly-defined dairy animal. This is so messed up........
