Re: “Sam J. Ervin, IV

I did not find Commissioner Ervin's comments confusing. In fact, I believe they were completely appropriate based on the questions posed which 1) seemed to ask him to assert a political agenda when it is wholly inappropriate for a judicial candidate to do so; and 2) many of the questions were geared toward the role of a trial judge as opposed to that of an appellate court judge.

As a young legal intern, I worked for both Commissioner Sam J. Ervin and his brother, Judge Robert Ervin when they were practioners in Morganton, NC. Although it became clear from the outset that - compared to that dynamic legal duo -I was out of my league, I feel I owe a great deal of my success today to their guidance and instruction.

I now reside in California, and will be unable to cast a vote in the election. However, if personal testimonies count for anything, I can assure you that you will not find a more fair-minded, diligent, honorable candidate. I believe he has the character, intellect and composure to make an exemplary court of appeals judge. Please cast your vote for Sam Ervin.
