Rat Jackson, Pneurotics, Some Army

When: Sat., July 2, 9:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $7

Rat Jackson is as much a tightrope walker as a rock band. Songs such as "Summer Hummer" and "The Two Minute Sweat" give up the game before the first note. Rat Jackson's hedonism, though, comes with a wink and a nudge, given the knowing irony in the band's celebration of rock 'n' roll caricature. But they perform with the sincerity of conviction, wringing every drop of joy from their rock-star fantasy camp. It doesn't matter if you're in on the joke. Maybe it's better if you're not. Truth is, these songs lend themselves well to the type of debauchery they celebrate. Opening the show are the Pneurotics and Some Army. —Bryan Reed
