Rasputina, Wilderness of Manitoba

When: Thu., Nov. 3, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $15-17

Rasputina— two cellists and a percussionist—shouldn't work, but it does. This distinctly gothic trio, who perform in Victorian attire, has been going since 1989 and could very easily score a Tim Burton film if Danny Elfman ever needed a pinch hitter. Openers The Wilderness of Manitoba also fall under the chamber pop umbrella, but they're as introspective as Rasputina is extroverted. The band's debut, When You Left the Fire, is an intimate record defined by warm four-part harmonies and gentle acoustic timbres. —Corbie Hill
