Raleigh Blues Festival

When: Sat., Feb. 9, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $42.50-$49.50

The 6th annual edition of this Oak City festival features a lineup of seasoned performers whose music is less pure blues than blues-informed. Topping the bill is the great Clarence Carter, blind since birth and best known for exquisite Muscle Shoals singles such as "Slip Away" and the wrenching narrative "Patches." Roy C. is an undervalued but oft-sampled soul singer who has persevered for decades since his biggest chart success, 1965's "Shotgun Wedding." Soul siren Shirley Brown brings her gospel-infused, room-filling wonder of a voice, while Theodis Ealey offers clean-lined contemporary blues, B.B. King-style. T.K. Soul channels Marvin Gaye with his lusty bedroom serenades. —David Klein
