Rachael Yamagata, Sanders Bohlke

When: Sat., July 6, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $15

Rachael Yamagata's music suggests that of Norah Jones if she'd traded the influence of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone for Carole King and Roberta Flack. Her tender, moody balladry possesses living-room intimacy, abetted by '70s slow-swell drama. Not much rises above a deliberate waltz, but it's a fine setting for sad songs lit by her torchy alto. Her new Heavyweight EP is nicely understated, moving away from 2008's rather baroque Elephants ... Teeth Sinking into Heart with a dreamy, autumnal air. Sanders Bohlke opens. —Chris Parker
