Ra Ra Riot, Givers

When: Thu., Nov. 4, 8:45 p.m. 2010
Price: $15-17

Syracuse indie rock septet Ra Ra Riot possesses a majestic chamber pop sweep, fueled by cellist Alexandra Lawn and violinist Rebecca Zeller. Their earlier efforts sport an infectious urgency that drives the grandeur forward, particularly on their stellar self-titled EP (and, to a lesser extent, on 2008's full-length debut, The Rhumb Line). Their August release, The Orchard, is somewhat staid, composed primarily of languorous mid-tempo ballads that ebb and flow beneath frontman Wes Miles' tenor quaver. These days, they veer much closer to the heavily orchestrated atmospherics of British Sea Power or Keane than the heady bustle of Vampire Weekend. —Chris Parker
