Q-Bex, The Jackets

When: Sat., May 8, 10 p.m. 2010
Price: $10

This performance is just the second for Q-Bex, a portmanteau of Hobex, the Southern-bred funk outfit that features Greg Humphreys and Andy Ware, and Apartment Q-258, the nickname of genre-hopping drummer Jeff Sipe. Ware has been flanking singer/ guitarist Humphreys on bass since their days in '90s power pop combo Dillon Fence, while Sipe has manned the stool for jam heavyweights like Leftover Salmon, Keller Williams, Trey Anastasio Band and the Aquarium Rescue Unit. This project is a soulful amalgamation of those two backgrounds, heavy on Humphreys' slide guitar.

The Jackets, meanwhile, pool the songwriting talents of Chatham County Line's Chandler Holt and John Teer with former Backslider and Hotel Light Roger Gupton. The trio of songwriters, who share an affinity for harmony-rich guitar pop and classic rock boogie, are energized by Thad Cockrell drummer Evans Nicholson. —Spencer Griffith
