Broad Street's monthly songwriter night, hosted by Greg Humprheys of Dillon Fence and Hobex, calls on members of Bull City and Mandolin Orange this time around. Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz are Mandolin Orange, a duo whose tender folk flutters like a songbird. There's a sweet timeworn sway to their back-porch compositions, and the vocal harmonies mesh like those of an old married couple. The rugged twang of Jim Brantley's quartet Bull City tends toward Southern rock, leavened by a smart hooky swagger. There's a keen lyrical intelligence behind the snarling guitar, which this rare Brantley solo appearance will likely spotlight. The intimate songwriter experience begins at 8 p.m. —Chris Parker
