Priests, Tenement, Vacation

When: Mon., March 2, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $8
As Priests’ superlative LP Bodies and Control and Money and Power drives toward its dive-bombing end, Katie Alice Greer screeches, “Barack Obama killed something in me/And I’m going to get him for it!” Politics informs much of what the wiry post-punk quartet does, but it doesn’t wholly define the band. Priests avoid easy sloganeering and empty threats, opting instead for rasping, jarring missives that hurl bricks toward many issues—consumer culture, gender, power dynamics, gentrification. Priests aren’t about shouting rallying cries so much as starting conversations. —Patrick Wall
