Re: “The $3 Million Question: Why Didn’t Wake Divert a Property Tax Surplus to Its School System?

Commissioner Ford is right to question the threshold for budgetary discretion made by staff. Where are the boundaries? Does staff spread the excess funds evenly across all line items, or do they assign the dollars to specific projects and if so how is that determination made? It's a fair question and shouldn't be swept under the rug as 'bizness as usual'. That's exactly how $600,000 in revenue gets pocketed in deeds and registrars office. Voters elect the Commissioners to make these decisions- not staff. And after weeks of public comments and pleas being made on behalf of the school board and the commissioners deciding they don't have the funds for education this is extremely disappointing

Re: “Donald Trump’s Raleigh rally got ugly (and violent)

The truly grievous point is that Mr Trump's rallying cries are not confined to the domain of Dornan arena.Donald Trump gives credence to this kind of vitriol as it festers and boils over into your life and mine, as we peacefully dine in restaurants, go to the movies or send our children to schools. The person who should be arrested for spreading and inciting hate crimes is Donald Trump himself. I can only dream that the media, the arenas, and the cities where he intends to travel next would all just stand up and say "no thank you' to Mr. Trump and his millions and his ratings circus.

Re: “Better off, but not without caveats

Very accurate and similar to our experience. To the mystery of our premium, add the conundrum of trying to figure out which network of doctors participate in which level and then give yourself nightmares trying to anticipate your need of said network of doctors.

Re: “UNC-CH senior arrested at the General Assembly: "I cannot in good conscience stand idly by"

I admire Zaina for speaking out so passionately for public education. I daresay most of our legislators owe their success to the public education system. Their boilerplate, ALEC driven legislation is indicative a selfish, racially biased agenda which clearly wants to close opportunities these same legislators have enjoyed. shame on them.

Re: “The Wake school board's conservative bloc grabs power

the recent shenanigans at the Wake BOE and Wake BCC is beneath even to the most Randian of libertarians. When the conservative fringe becomes institutionalized bullys and thugs clearly even John Galt would hang his head in embarassment.
