Pops for Pops

When: Sun., June 19, 5 p.m. 2011
Price: Free

When you're 11, maybe you pick up the clarinet. "Why the clarinet?" your dad asks himself as you make him privy to the squawks and squeaks of daily practice. After your sixth-grade band concert, he gives you a hug and takes you out for ice cream. Thank your dad this Father's Day by taking him to a concert that will show him what the clarinet—or trumpet or trombone—can really do. With marches and show tunes from the Durham Community Concert Band and big-band music from the Durham Jazz Orchestra, kick back on the lawn and enjoy the small-town feel as the sun cools off at the end of the day. The free show begins at 5 p.m. —Andrew Ritchey
