Plow, Helgamite, Worshipper, Thunderchief

When: Fri., Feb. 20, 8:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
Plow travels from Boone to headline a showcase of regional metal that also includes Kill Devil Hills’ one-man doom band Thunderchief, ponderous black metal from Raleigh’s Worshipper and groove-digging doom from Virginia’s Helgamite. While Plow’s tunes are rooted in stoner-metal riffs, they are confounding, too, as if Clutch suddenly found the irreverence of Zappa or the Butthole Surfers. This instro-metal is full of sudden about-faces, turning Sabbath-y groove into prog-jazz spasms or Minutemen funk. —Bryan C. Reed
