Pink Flag, Wojcik, Eros & the Eschaton

When: Wed., July 31, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $6
The Durham trio Pink Flag isn't as jerky or jagged as the Wire album from which these three take their name, but they do conjugate a similar blend of punchy hooks & clamorous aggression. The songs exist on a razor's edge, from the bully-dodging ode "School" to "Ted Bundy's Heart," which sounds like Husker Du; channeling Perry Farrell. Greensboro duo Eros & the Eschaton's shimmery, swelling psych-pop fits their Terence McKenna-inspired name. Their impressive full-length debut on Bar/None drops Aug. 13. Wojcik, the band of Brooklyn artist Hailey Wojcik, conjures spooky electric guitar dramas, suggesting PJ Harvey caught in the act. —Chris Parker
