Pina in 3-D

When: Fri., March 29, 7:30 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

Those interested in the future of film and postmodern dance have one place to be on this night: the museum's WRAL 3D Theater, where Duke's Program in Arts of the Moving Image presents a free screening of Wim Wenders' groundbreaking 2011 documentary, Pina. Wenders and his stereographers used the latest advances in 3-D technology to capture four dance theater works by the late choreographic genius Pina Bausch in ways they've never been seen before. Instead of suddenly throwing arms and legs out into the theater, Wenders uses 3-D to subtly move us into the worlds of the performances, including a disturbing Café Müller and her harrowing Rite of Spring. In a room that intimate, the startling sense of proximity to the dancers will likely be enhanced. —Byron Woods
