Pierced Arrows, Don't

When: Sat., May 19, 10 p.m. 2012
Price: $12-15

This week, garage rock royalty rolls through Chapel Hill's favorite underground venue. Pierced Arrows are led by Fred Cole and his wife, Toody. Fred started out in the Nuggets-approved Lollipop Shoppe, transitioning that fuzzy enthusiasm into punk rock in the '70s and playing with a host of different bands, most notably Dead Moon. That band broke up in 2006, but Pierced Arrows live up to the legacy with blurry, bruising outbursts that hinge on the quavering grunts of Cole's road-ravaged pipes. Opening act Don't, a team of garage veterans weaponized with aggressive distortion and the serrated coos of singer Jenny Don't, make for a fitting complement. —Jordan Lawrence
