Peter Wolf Crier, Milagres

When: Mon., Oct. 3, 9:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $10-12

The last we heard from Peter Wolf Crier's Peter Pisano, he was a happy-go-lucky middle school science teacher by day and a narcotic-fueled indie blues musician by night. He and percussionist Brian Moen crafted last year's Inter-Be, a record of sparse textures and cryptic lyrics. The decidedly Midwestern sprawl of their tunes made them a congenial fit on the Jagjaguwar label, home to Bon Iver and Okkervil River. Their new release, Garden of Arms, amps up the promise with increased complexity and confidence. The middle schoolers will need to be looking for someone besides Pisano to teach them the secrets of science soon. Brooklyn's Milagres opens. —Ashley Melzer
