Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick

When: Wed., Aug. 12, 7 p.m. 2015
Price: $40-$75
The reason behind this summer-tour pairing is pretty simple: Cheap Trick and Peter Frampton share management. (Also: “They’re a great band and great people to hang with,” Frampton told a Michigan journalist earlier this month.) The two acts caught lightning in a bottle with live albums they released in the ’70s. They were snapshots of a moment that wound up defining them—Frampton with his many-times-platinum Frampton Comes Alive!, Cheap Trick with their tightly wound At Budokan. The hits will be on full display, but curveballs await. Frampton’s been playing an instrumental take on Soundgarden’s bubble-grunge hit “Black Hole Sun,” which shows off his sumptuous guitar tones and highlights that song’s stealth power-pop ambitions. —Maura Johnston
