Peter Case

When: Wed., April 3, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $10-18

Though he's a troubadour with an acoustic guitar, Peter Case has never quite fit as a folkie. Migrating west from Buffalo as a teen, he made his name with the edgy California rock/new wave bands The Nerves and The Plimsouls before breaking out with his 1986 self-titled solo debut produced by T Bone Burnett. It rates among the great singer-songwriter albums of the '80s. His gritty style owes much to old-school blues, a debt he acknowledged in full in 2001 by producing the Grammy-nominated Mississippi John Hurt tribute disc, Avalon Blues. More recently he's recorded for Triangle label Yep Roc, and he also appears in the short documentary film Troubadour Blues, which will be screened before Case takes the stage for this show. —Peter Blackstock
