Re: “Debra Goldman

I'm really disappointed to read Ms. Goldman's views, specifically:

"I believe that there are other innovative ideas that can create a diverse AND family friendly school district." Like what, please? This is the time to win me over to your viewpoint!

"...refocus more resources to the at-risk students" What about the higher achieving students? There have been so many program cuts due to budget problems, especially for AG students. How are they going to compete with other college applicants who have had high level math courses, foreign language, technology, etc? In another example, due to cuts, PE is now only required for students in elementary schools every 10 days. This is sad especially in light of the obesity problem that so many of our children face.

Ms. Goldman's response to #8 leaves me speechless! Then I got to question #11 and I really am not convinced she understands the magnet school concept. Also, in many cases the magnets do share resources with the public and private sectors that she pines for involvement with in question #13. I read on to question #12 and I am floored to think of the cost of putting in a shared swimming pool in a new high school, much less a planetarium!

Re: “Lois Nixon

On the contrary, I feel she nailed how parents in the Cary area feel. I'm worried that budget cuts have caused programs within the schools to be cut (especially non-core subjects and GT programs) and it's going to negatively effect students in the long run. I think more spending for schools is needed but I don't know where that $ is going to come from. Wish she had addressed that. I think to reconfigure the schools to neighborhood schools is going to be really expensive. Please! Can we quit experimenting with our children's education?
