Peelander-Z, Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re

When: Sun., Nov. 14, 9:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $8

Peelander-Z is a live-action, twee-punk children's anime, sort of like The Wiggles for a bar crowd lacking in irony. Full enjoyment requires some suspension of disbelief, because to the jaundiced observer their colorful outfits, wacky antics, unfettered enthusiasm and J-pop-punk sound might seem sillier than anything Andrew W.K. released. Should you release your inhibitions, it's very easy to be swept up in their gleeful intensity, from human bowling episodes to nutty props straight out of the Banana Splits Adventure Hour and manic musical takes on "Old McDonald Had a Farm." It's more of an experience than a performance per se, but it's well worth witnessing. Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re opens at 9:30 p.m. —Chris Parker
