Paul Taylor Dance Company

When: Fri., July 12, 8 p.m. and Sat., July 13, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $12-52

The sun always rises, the seasons change inexorably from winter to spring to summer, and Paul Taylor always brings his company to the American Dance Festival. The last connection to the earliest days of what's called modern dance, Taylor turns 82 late this month. One of the ADF's annual appeals is to see what Taylor repertory will be combined with the new work. Making its Durham premiere, "Perpetual Dawn" has been called an "18th-century pastoral" complete with pre-modern gender dynamics, however balletic. Taylor draws his 1981 meditation upon relationships, "Arden Court," out of the past; it's lauded as one of his masterpieces.—Chris Vitiello
