I wish more articles like this would address the fact (yes, fact) that the Dead really did have not one, but two of the most interesting writing teams in rock history in Garcia/Hunter and Weir/Barlow. The list of amazing tunes spans almost their entire recorded history, from Anthem of the Sun to Built to Last. These tunes would still be amazing, even without the baggage of the Dead's legacy, too. I don't care how iconic of a player or personality you are, without the tunes, you won't last. And in that category, the Dead had the goods, for sure.
