Pattern is Movement, Beauty World

When: Fri., June 5, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $10
Despite covering D’Angelo and hailing from Philadelphia, Pattern Is Movement never could quite take their indie-oriented brand of soul toward popularity. Perhaps it’s a question of timing, as last year’s self-titled LP was their first in six years, putting them both ahead of and behind the Dirty Projectors’ similar moves. Or perhaps it’s a question of accessibility, as they love to lace their hooks with strange textural tangents. Or perhaps it’s a question of not looking at two burly bearded fellows for this type of fare. Whatever the cause, this is the last tour for Pattern Is Movement’s nuanced, sensitive and still swaggering soul permutations, and they remain worth your time. —Grayson Haver Currin
