Owen Pallett, Snowblink

When: Mon., April 26, 9:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $10-$12

Heartland, the January LP from Canadian violinist and arranger Owen Pallett, and the first album he's released under his own name rather than as Final Fantasy—is a 12-song cycle about a young man, Lewis, living in a world called Spectrum. He questions the righteousness of his God, not coincidentally named Owen, and what he's willing to devote to his deity. And while the arrangements mix labyrinthine strings and electronic subtleties into fluorescent anthems, let's hope that tonight's rock club mix favors Pallett's tender voice and elaborate cosmic investigations. Quoting The Arcade Fire, speaking on parallaxes and alliterating "overzealous obscurantism," Pallett peaks when his winding words step into the spotlight. Snowblink opens the show. —Grayson Currin
