Outside Mullingar + The Cherry Orchard

When: Oct. 2-Nov. 14 2015

It's apt that leave-takings and the reckonings they occasion figure into both of the productions in rotating repertory at Deep Dish Theater through mid-November. The company is leaving Chapel Hill's University Mall, its home of 15 years, after these shows close. In Outside Mullingar, John Patrick Shanley's odd romantic comedy, the death of a farmowner leaves the surviving elders in two Irish families thinking less than kindly about their recalcitrant progeny. With an inheritance on the line, will a dreamer and a rough-cut girl find their way forward? Tony Lea directs. And in Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, a privileged family slowly decides how—or if—it will adapt to changing social and economic structures in pre-revolutionary Russia. Company founder Paul Frellick takes a talented ensemble, including Rebecca Bossen and veterans Dorothy Recasner Brown, John Rogers Harris, Tom Marriott and Nan Stephenson, on one last jaunt in their old haunt. 7:30 p.m. Weds.Thurs; 8 p.m. Fri.Sat.; 2 p.m. Sun. (except Oct. 4); 3 p.m. Sat. Oct. 24 and Nov. 7, $20$50, 201 S. Estes Drive, Chapel Hill, 919-968-1515, www.deepdishtheater.org. —Byron Woods
