Re: “Bad blood brewing over Old North Durham Park

I would challenge the Independent's phrase, "Rooted in Old North Durham...." and goes on to vaguely describe El Kilombo. I have heard that a couple of individuals have bought property in our neighborhood,, but 'rooted' they are not!
Who they are taking on ,however, is our neighborhood (I am a long-time resident & Board member of the neighborhood association), in their insistence on a full-sized soccer field in the OND park. We see benefit in having a substantial sized field AND the benefits of a mixed use recreational park in this neighborhood space.
It's great that these two kinds of uses can exist simultaneously -- and it's hard to figure out why a group that does not represent the two groups they are advocating for (Latino & low-income) is making such an issue of these two uses for the park . It feels like opportunism - a bandstanding group in search of an issue to beat the drum. ONDlvr
